DLT Registration Guide for Bulk SMS — Step by Step

Every business that sends SMS in India must register on a DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform, as per TRAI rules. Here’s the full process, the documents you need and the official portal of every operator.

DLT registration in 5 steps

1Register as Principal EntitySign up on any one operator’s DLT portal with your business documents. You get an Entity ID.
2Register your HeaderYour sender ID: 6 letters for transactional/service SMS, 6 digits for promotional SMS.
3Register message templatesSubmit each SMS with variables as {#var#} and pick the right category.
4Link your SMS providerAdd Smart Campaign Solution’s telemarketer ID 1702XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX to your entity so your SMS can be delivered.
5Start sendingShare your Entity ID, header and template IDs with us and go live.

Fee & renewal: DLT registration has a fee (commonly ₹5,900 incl. GST on the first portal) paid directly to the operator, and it is renewable — keep it active and renew before it expires, otherwise SMS will stop. Check the latest fee and validity on your operator’s portal. Our team helps you with DLT registration, renewal and template approval.

Documents you need

• Company / proprietor PAN card • Business proof: GST certificate, CIN, Udyam, Shop Act or similar • Letter of Authorisation on company letterhead • Authorised person’s ID proof, email and mobile Exact list can vary by operator.

Template rules to remember

• Use {#var#} for every changing value (name, amount, date) • Links and callback numbers in templates must be whitelisted • Choose the right category: Transactional, Service Implicit, Service Explicit or Promotional • Header and template must belong to the same entity• Only approved templates can be sent — new or changed messages need fresh approval• Keep your DLT registration active; renew it before expiry
